Southern Fried Apple Pies

Ingredients

  • 2 Bags of Dried Apples
  • 2-3 Cups Water Enough to cover apples
  • ¼ Cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice
  • 2 Cans Refrigerator Large Biscuits
  • 1-2 tsp Ground Cinnamon

Instructions

  • Put dried apples in pop and cover with water, add sugar and pumpkin pie spice.
  • Stir together and place on very low setting on over.
  • Let the apples cook for 2-3 hours.
  • Check on the apples every so often to make sure no burning and to stir the apple mixture.
  • Once apples are extremely tender remove from heat and let cool.
  • Take the biscuits out and roll the biscuit into flat discs about the size of a music CD (maybe slightly larger).
  • Sprinkle some cinnamon on the biscuit and add a small spoonful of apple mixture.
  • Fold over the biscuit and use a fork to seal the edge. Also use the fork to poke holes into the pie.
  • Once all the pies are done being prepared for cooking, you can either bake them or fry them.
  • Preheat Oven to 350 degrees, if baking
  • If baking, take a water egg white wash and brush over the pies, and then bake pie for about 17-22 minutes, till golden brown.
  • If frying the pies heat up about ½ inch of vegetable oil in a skillet.
  • Once oil is hot add one pie and cook on one side till brown, flip and cook other side and before completely removing don’t forget to cook the spine of the pie.
  • Cooking time may vary, but about 1 minute per side and 15-30 for spine.
  • Place pies on paper towel to wick away excess oil.
  • Pies will last about 2-3 days. Makes about 14-16 pies
