Americanized Spanish Rice

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Rice Uncooked
  • 1 Cup Orzo Pasta Uncooked
  • 1 Sweet Onion
  • 1 Green Pepper
  • 1 Can Black Beans
  • 1 Can Tomato Sauce Large Can
  • 4-6 oz Gouda Cheese
  • 6-10 oz Monterey Jack Cheese
  • 1 tbsp Basil
  • 1 tsp Celery Salt
  • 1 tsp Cilantro
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 1/2-1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
  • ½ tsp Pepper
  • 1 Corn, Frozen Optional
  • 1 Jalapeno Optional
  • Fresh Cherry Tomatoes Optional

Instructions

  • Cook the rice per manufactures instruction, but add a ½ can of the tomato sauce. 
  • Cook the pasta per manufactures instructions, but add remaining tomato sauce. 
  • Once rice and pasta is cooked, let it cool.   
  • You will need a 9x13 pan that is fairly deep. 
  • Chop the onion and green pepper very fine, use a mini chopper or food processor.  
  • Shred the Gouda cheese and Monterey jack cheese. 
  • Measure out your spices and mix in small bowl.   
  • Take the rice and pasta and add to your 9x13 pan and mix together.   
  • Then add spices and mix.
  • Add the black beans, onions, green pepper.   
  • Mix in the Gouda cheese and top with the Monterey jack cheese.  
  • Then you can put rice/pasta dish into the oven just to melt the cheese, around 375 degrees.
